2018 Fall Front Porch

Happy fall, friends! Welcome to our home “up north”. As some of you know, we recently made a (sort of) big move, about an hour and a half north of our last home. Although we miss being close to some of our friends and family that we are now further away from, we are absolutely loving life here in our new home. I am currently working on putting together a post of our life here so far, but in the meantime, I wanted to share our fall front porch with you.

Last year I had so much fun decorating and sharing our fall front porch decor, and I was excited to do it again here in our new home. We have been in this new home for three months now and at this point, we’ve made very few changes to the exterior of the house and property. One little change that I couldn’t wait to make is the front door color. The door was a dark forest green, and I wanted to go with a happier brighter color to better complement the buttery yellow siding on the house. And what better color than blue?! (You’ll learn with me that there really is no better color). With a light blue door, yellow siding, and white trim and columns, I knew that I wanted to incorporate a lot of white in my fall front porch decor and accent with some brighter fun fall colors.

I was loving all the mums and different color pumpkins this year, and I went with quite a few more than last year. When it comes to decorating, I tend to sculpt a room or vignette a little at a time. Although it’s nice to put together a plan, “sculpting” my decor sometimes allows for a little more creativity. For example, When I laid things out and realized I needed to add more dimension, I was able to pull in items I already had laying around. This method also allows me to see what looks better and what doesn’t look so nice and make decisions from there. Sometimes the good ol’ trial and error method really works best! One decorative piece that I did carry over from last fall was the front door wreath.

I got this beautiful blue milk can from my dad, and it served as a great front porch piece to provide dimension and contrast within my fall decor. I love to add different layers and levels as I find it makes things more interesting.

I originally went on the hunt for a cute fall doormat, but after looking at the few options available, I decided that I loved this Hobby Lobby doormat more. It’s true… this house really does run on coffee and Jesus! If you’re interested in purchasing this rug (or any of their other cute rugs), they are 50% off this week!

Some of the decorative items I used were items I already had around the house, like the clay pots, the old wooden crate, and the galvanized metal flower pot. You’d be surprised how well you can incorporate items you already have laying around into your decor. The crate was another excellent item to create dimension and contrast, with items both inside of it and on top of it.

Another way that I created interest is by using different sizes and colors of both pumpkins and mums. I love the grey, white, and green pumpkins while adding pops of darker colors in the oranges, reds, and even pinks.

Using different flower pots helped as well, with the different galvanized metal pots, clay pots, apple basket, and more. Having all the different sizes, colors, and textures was really the key to building my fall front porch the way I wanted it.

Thanks so much for checking out my blog and touring my 2018 fall front porch! I’d love to see how you decorate for fall, so tag me in your fall decor photos on Instagram: @charming.north or Facebook!
