Hello there! I hope your holiday season is going well! I’ve been working hard to add the finishing touches to some of the rooms in our house, and I was finally able to photograph the kitchen and breakfast nook to share. I’m happy to say that it’s finished (for now anyways). 😉

When we first got the keys to the house, the kitchen was the first room we painted. It was a cappuccino color, which was pretty, but we wanted to brighten it up some since it lacks a lot of natural light. The breakfast nook was just an empty space to put a table.

The coved ceilings, peg wood floors, and charming arched built-in made this space so cute and full of character and all we had to do was add our own personal touch.

We knew right away that we wanted to build in a wraparound bench and complete it with a beautiful round farmhouse table. My talented husband built us this beautiful bench, sturdily attached to the wall so as not to disrupt the baseboard heaters, and refinished this round solid oak table with a gorgeous dark stain and a bright white base. We also changed out the chandelier, and although I originally thought this one might be too big for the space, I quickly grew to love it.

Originally, we painted the builtin shelves white along with the walls, but we decided that we needed a bit more contrast, so we replaced the shelves with stained wood boards to match the table and bench.

The “Gather Together” sign, boxwood greenery on the top shelf, galvanized metal clock (a clearance find), and corbel bookend were all purchased at Hobby Lobby. The stacked farm animals on the bottom shelf, white baking dish on the bottom shelf, and the blue candle on the middle shelf were all from TJ Maxx and Home Goods. The round cheese board and “farmers market” sign were bought at Meijer. Most everything else in the little builtin was thrifted, vintage, or handed down from family.

I bought this cute little farm canvas in a little shop in downtown Cadillac. The amber glass milk bottle was also purchased there and was a really cool local piece, from an old dairy farm out of Mesick, Michigan.

The blue striped pieces were a gift from my lovely aunt and the vintage cook books are something I’ve started collecting from local thrift stores.

This oil rubbed bronze globe chandelier is from Wayfair. You can find it here:

These wall decor pieces are all from Hobby Lobby. The two on the right were clearance scores and you can find the one on the left here. The deer/reindeer bowl was purchased at TJ Maxx.

The large tobacco basket was another Hobby Lobby find and the wreath was another TJ Maxx buy.

Our little farmhouse kitchen is cute and functional and we all spend a lot of time around this little round table. Although we love it right now, we have big plans for it in the future. These beautiful old floors could use a little TLC eventually and we would love to replace the cabinets and countertops in time as well as a little change in layout for part of the kitchen.

This little space seemed like the perfect spot to setup a mini coffee bar.

This nice big window over the sink looks out to our spacious front yard, our mini orchard, and beautiful tall mature trees and is a great spot to watch the kids play from or the deer feast on apples under the big old apple tree. I hope to someday have a beautiful big farm sink under that window.

Can I just mention how much I love these floors? I was looking for character in a house and I’d say we definitely found it!

Momma got an early Christmas present here, and I couldn’t be happier with it! I never felt that I needed a KitchenAid mixer until I laid eyes on this one, and I swear it’s like it was made for me. The colors and the hobnail bowl… ALL THE HEART EYES! Teddy says it looks like it belongs on the china cabinet. And it works just as beautifully as it looks. I’m excited to use it for all my holiday baking. Because I’ve already had a lot of messages about this mixer from sharing it in my stories, I’ll go ahead and link it. This is the KitchenAid Limited Edition Heritage Artisan Model K 5-Qt Stand Mixer with Ceramic Hobnail Bowl.

Our laundry room is located in the kitchen, with a little bit of wall division. Some find this to be convenient (it is main floor laundry) and others are not in love with it being right there off the kitchen. I see it from both sides, but I would love to have it somewhere separate from the kitchen. Moving it out of the kitchen is another change we plan to make in the future. On the other side of that wall is our mudroom/breezeway, which would be a perfect place to move the laundry to. By moving the laundry out, we would make room for a lot more kitchen cabinets and space. A kitchen reno isn’t in the budget at the moment, but someday I look forward to designing a new farmhouse kitchen and making this change.

This super cute set of hooks is topped with a pullout drying rack and is the perfect addition to the laundry room. I purchased this at Hobby Lobby but was unable to find it online. The “Laundry Co.” sign is from Kirkland’s.

Both the rug in front of the sink and the rug in the laundry room are from TJ Maxx. And have I mentioned that I love those floors?

There you have it! Our little farmhouse kitchen tour. I look forward to sharing our progress in this space in the future, as we continue to make it our own.

Thank you so much for reading and touring our kitchen with me! Is there a space in our house you’re looking forward to seeing? Leave me a comment below and let me know!
