4 Free Fall Decorating Ideas with Natural Elements
Free décor? Who doesn’t like free décor?! I definitely do! And the best part is that these free décor options change seasonally, look super realistic, and you don’t have to store them. You can use fresh options every year! Yes, that’s right… I’m talking about using natural elements in your décor. Items that you can gather from outdoors and bring inside to give your home a fresh seasonal look. Today, I’m sharing four super simple ideas for free fall decorating with natural elements.
1. Fall Leaf Clippings
A very simple way to decorate for fall with free and natural elements from outdoors is by clipping a few small branches from a colorful fall tree. We have beautiful maple trees that are always vibrant with reds and oranges in the fall. Every year I love clipping small branches with these vibrant fall colors to bring indoors that add a beautiful autumn pop to my everyday decor.

2. Apples
We have a small orchard on our property and we pick fresh apples every fall; all season long. These fresh apples are great for a healthy snack, of course, but they can double as pretty fall décor as well. If you don’t have apple trees to pick from, I apologize because this one isn’t exactly free, but if apples are something you keep on hand anyways, you can consider them double duty. You could also display other fresh produce in a pretty way, such as oranges or pomegranates.

3. Fresh or Dried Flowers
Fall hydrangeas, with their somewhat dried look, are a favorite to use in fall décor. Clipping any fresh flowers can make for beautiful accents to your home in any season. Depending on weather, we sometimes still have roses available and garden mums are another pretty option. Where we live, there are always gorgeous fall wildflower options as well.
.
4. Crabapple or Apple Tree Clippings
I just love the look of crabapple branches and apple tree branches. They create a beautiful subtle fall look and they make for a great transition from summer to fall décor. Finding small branches filled with crabapples or small apple tree branches with a couple apples attached might be my favorite natural décor to use. Depending on where you live, crabapple trees might be more common or maybe you have more apple trees around you. Either option provides a fresh and gorgeous look for your home.
In this little corner of our living room, I used fresh apples and crabapple clippings from our property along with some books and simple white candles to create a beautiful and elegant vignette. I already had these candles, and have reused them over and over, so the décor in this vignette cost me absolutely nothing.
A few other ideas of free or inexpensive natural elements you could use in your décor:
- pinecones
- acorns
- pressed leaves
- pressed flowers
- pumpkins (tip: plant your own for beautiful fall décor that costs almost nothing come fall)
Stunning décor doesn’t have to cost a fortune, or maybe nothing at all. Not to worry if you don’t have all of these options available to you, as these ideas were meant to inspire you to look outdoors and use what’s around you. Each season can provide fresh new options to enjoy, both inside and out and it makes seasonal decorating affordable.
