Christmas Home Tour | 2021

Happy November, friends! The clock struck midnight on Halloween, and everything switched over to Christmas! Well.. maybe not everything, but many people ARE getting their Christmas décor out now, and our shop is heading in that direction quickly! While we have officially begun our 2022 Christmas shop reset, Christmas decorating at home will likely hold off a bit longer, but in the spirit of this early transition, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to share our full 2021 Christmas home tour.

Last year, I shared some photos here and there on social media, but with the busy shopping season and the pending purchase of the building and expansion, I never got around to sharing the full tour on the blog. Between resetting the store and looking back on Christmas décor in past years, it’s a fun way to get inspired and gets my head spinning with ideas for this year’s Christmas decorating. Whether you decorate now, after Thanksgiving, or in the week before, I hope that you find inspiration for your Christmas decorating here as well.

Christmas in the Greenhouse

Last year was the first year I decorated the greenhouse for Christmas, and while we don’t spend a ton of time out there in the cold, it made me so happy to look over and see a Christmas tree lighting it up. The greenhouse is so beautiful on its own and with the pretty white snow, I kept the decorating simple, setting up a simple flocked tree in an urn planter and decorating it only with some white lights. I added a few candles and sparkly trees, it was a magical sight.

Christmas Gathering in the Dining Room

Simple subtle touches of Christmas were all we needed to create a classic Christmas look in the dining room. Just as in the rest of the house, we love to mix old and new, bringing in vintage pieces mixed with a touch of modern style.

The long shelf that Teddy built me got a coat of paint, with Hazelwood from our Fusion Mineral Paint line that we carry in the shop. I added a Christmas rolling pin to my everyday collection and the pretty copper teapot that was my great grandmother’s. My white pitcher collection got dressed up with some Christmas greenery, and the vintage inspired breadboard behind them added a warm backdrop. Most of these items are up year around, so adding a small seasonal touch made all the difference. On the hooks, I added a pair of ice skates and our advent stocking, and a small pillow and blanket added a cozy warm texture to the antique theater seats.

I love the idea of an old fashioned Christmas, and while the vintage plates, vintage prints, and antique theater seats are part of our everyday décor, I love how vintage treasures like these add such a special feel to Christmas.

A Cozy Christmas Living Room

For our 2021 Christmas decorating in the living room, I embraced some darker tones and contrast and was inspired to go with a bit of a woodland rustic but classic look with some old fashioned touches.

The last few years, we have gone with a real tree because we love the look and smell of having a real tree, but we also love the experience of going and picking out a Christmas tree as a family. We go to our favorite local tree farm, Dutchman Tree Farms, and the kids look forward to it each year.

When it comes to decorating the Christmas tree, I like to pick my color scheme each year and then we add our lights and any garland we might be adding to it. After that, the whole family decorates the tree together, and we just leave out any ornaments outside of the chosen color scheme, with the exception of a few special ornaments the kids have made. It’s our compromise to sticking with a theme or color scheme while still having everyone join in on the fun of decorating.

While colorful Christmas lights are pretty, I’m really drawn to the simple sparkling white Christmas lights. I guess maybe it’s the neutrality of the white lights, allowing us to go with any color scheme. Speaking of color scheme, we kept with the every day décor and colors we have in the living room and added a few green velvet pillows, a little bit of plaid, a lot of pine with garland, greens, and trees, some extra cozy textures, and a few rustic touches.

Last Christmas, I tried a new thing, making dried orange slices for the trees and garland. One of my littles, Keira, helped me make them, and it was another fun Christmas memory to make together that she still talks about from time to time. The dried oranges also added a fun old fashioned feel to our vintage mixed with modern décor.

So many of the treasures in this space came from Charming North. Most of the stockings, the wool tartan blanket, the green velvet pillows, the faux fur blanket, the pine garland, several of the ornaments, the tree topper, the driftwood nativity, the natural wood bead garland on the coffee table, the bust planter, the iron reindeer, multiple small Christmas trees, the white and terra cotta vase on the coffee table, the vintage black cunmin pot on the mantel, the mini snow shoes on the hearth, the wreath in the bookcase, the birch village and dough bowl they’re setting in, and several other vintage and new items in this space came from the shop.

Adding the frame to the TV and changing out the “TV art” has been such a great addition to the space. I love that I can swap the art out, using the ArtHola app, from one season to the next and one day to the next as the weather or the mood changes.

A Classic Christmas Sunroom

Classic and comfy with some vintage touches… That was the vibe for the sunroom last Christmas. We love our vintage family treasures, like the tree topper that was my grandmother’s, the whiskey jug and crock that came from my dad and stepmom, the leaded glass window that came from Teddy’s parents’, the daybed that came from my aunt, and more.

This space currently has no TV in it, but we have a record player. We love to sit in here at night sometimes listening to records, and around Christmas time, sipping eggnog cocktails and cozying up by the Christmas tree. The is my happy place… I love to drink my morning coffee in here, especially in the winter when it’s too cold to sit on the porch.

This bright white sunroom was dressed up with touches of classic Christmas colors of forest green and shades of reds and cranberry. We added dried orange slices to the collection of ornaments and a garland of cinnamon sticks, pinecones, and fake cranberries. The green and white pillows, some of the ornaments, and the diamond jute rug came from the shop.

Pretty Christmas Bedroom Details

Adding Christmas details to the bedroom was all about the soft textures with blankets and pillows, rustic touches with stacks of wood, a sprinkling of Christmas greenery on the mantel and vintage gold mirrors, lots of flameless candles, and a cute little Charlie Brown Christmas tree wrapped in white twinkle lights and candle clips and placed in a vintage Chinese water pot. Having a little Christmas tree and décor in the bedroom has been one of my most favorite things at Christmas time.

Some of the Charming North shop treasures in this space include: the little Charlie Brown Christmas tree, the vintage Chinese water pot, the wreath over the bed, the garland, the tartan wool blankets, and the vintage gold framed mirrors.

I hope you enjoyed touring our home and found some inspiration for the quickly approaching holiday and Christmas season. Even if you’d rather wait a while to decorate, a little early Christmas spirit and inspiration never hurts. Gathering ideas early for your own Christmas décor can help you plan when going through your own decorations and deciding whether to shop for new pieces for the season.
