Christmas Home Tour | 2022
The shop is reset for the holidays and Christmas decorations are going up at home, so what better time than now to share last year’s Christmas home tour? Last year’s Christmas décor was a mix of traditional, vintage, and a touch of rustic with a lot of pretty pieces from the shop. Much of our Christmas decorating was simple and subtle and I focused on tying it in with our everyday décor. Just enough create a comfortable yet festive Christmas. A couple rooms saw new wall colors last year, so the overall vibe of the house got slightly darker and moodier and definitely cozier. The darker colors really suit this hundred year old house quite well. And we had snow.
We kept things very simple in the sunroom, with a couple little Christmas pillows and this adorable little Charlie Brown style faux Christmas tree from our shop. We currently have one more available in store. It fit perfectly in my vintage stag ice bucket (another old shop find) and with just a few pretty and neutral ornaments and some dried orange slice ornaments, it was the perfect touch of Christmas for this small space.
The living room got a new paint color just before Christmas last year. We went with Reclaimed Wood by Magnolia, from our local Lakeside Ace Hardware, and I could not love it more. It sometimes looks more grey and sometimes more green and definitely changes in different lighting, as seen in the nighttime photos below and the daytime photos of the same space below that. What surprised me with this project is that Ted loved it so much and was actually excited about painting this space. He’s not such a fan of painting (and repainting), so that really said a lot! In addition to the new wall color, we brought in this beautiful antique secretary desk from the shop. It replaced the white desk that had previously sat in this corner, and provided more storage for us. It offers function and is another fun piece to decorate. I love the vintage and homey feel with the dark wood against the darker paint color.
We went with a traditional Christmas color scheme and mixed our greens and reds with neutrals to tie into our décor. So many of the ornaments on our (real) Christmas tree are still available at our shop, Charming North. Our white pine garland was from the shop, and with a few orange slices attached across it, it was such a pretty and cozy vintage feel. While this garland is no longer available, we do have some really pretty realistic garland options available in the shop this year.
The stockings and faux snowshoes on the fireplace are all from the shop, with some items available again this year. We added some pretty wintry TV art and some little trees and village pieces to the mantel. Very few and subtle Christmas touches were added to the bookcase, such as a metal reindeer and a mix of fresh and faux winter greens. A couple festive pillows and blankets on the sofa completed the Christmas look in the living room.
Peeking through from the living room, you can see some of our Christmas and winter touches in the dining room. An advent stocking, a winter berry wreath, and an old pair of ice skates (all décor I’ve had for years and years) hang from the hooks and a little Christmas pillow and blanket rest on the antique theater seats. I popped little Christmas trees in each of my white pitchers and on the shelf and a pretty little Christmas rolling pin in with my collection. We hung fresh pine garland around the archway looking into the living room, and it was such a happy view. A simple holly table runner from the store lines the dining table. A combination of small tree branches and some red winter berry stems from the shop made a beautiful Christmas-y crown atop our china cabinet. I absolutely love the view in the last dining room photo, with the china cabinet on the right, the woodwork on the stairway straight ahead, and the garland wrapped archway providing the perfect frame for the Christmas tree in the living room. It’s one of my favorite views in this old farmhouse.
The bedroom is another space that got a new paint color right before Christmas. We went dark and moody, with Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore, also from our local Lakeside Ace Hardware. We added a pretty vintage chandelier and did a little rearranging of the furniture and it made it feel like a whole new space.
I didn’t want to make the space too busy or cluttered, so we kept the decorations in here very simple. We used a mix of fresh and faux greens and garlands in this space and a simple lit Christmas tree without any ornaments. I also added a few little wreaths to my mirror collage, some simple brass candlesticks, a couple stockings to the fireplace, and a comfy sweater knit throw to the bed. It was the perfect setting to snuggle up and watch one of my all time favorite movies, “It’s a Wonderful Life”.
